History

The Panzer II was a German light tank developed in the 1930s, originally intended as a stopgap until more advanced models like the Panzer III became available. Entering service in 1936, it played a significant role during the early stages of World War II, particularly in the invasions of Poland and France. Although lightly armoured and equipped with a 20mm cannon, it proved effective against similarly equipped opponents in the early war years. However, as the war progressed and enemy tanks became more powerful, the Panzer II quickly became outdated. It was gradually phased out from frontline service by 1941, though its chassis remained in use for various roles, such as self-propelled guns and reconnaissance vehicles, throughout the conflict.
