History.

The Sherman M4A3E2 "Jumbo" was a heavily armoured variant of the American M4 Sherman tank, developed during World War II. Introduced in 1944, it was designed to provide additional protection for tank crews facing increasingly powerful German anti-tank weapons, particularly during the Allied push into Europe after D-Day.

The "Jumbo" featured thicker armour than standard Sherman models, especially on the front hull and turret, making it more resistant to enemy fire. Its armour was so robust that it was often used in spearhead assaults, leading columns to absorb the brunt of enemy attacks. Despite this added protection, the "Jumbo" was still powered by the same engine as other Sherman variants, which made it slower and less manoeuvrable.

Although only around 250 Jumbos were produced, they played a crucial role in the closing stages of the war, helping to ensure Allied forces could penetrate heavily fortified German positions with fewer losses.
