History.

The Vought F4U Corsair was an American fighter aircraft developed during the Second World War and first flown in 1940. Designed around the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine, it was distinguished by its inverted gull wings, which allowed a large propeller while maintaining ground clearance. Early carrier landings proved difficult, delaying its initial naval deployment, but once these issues were resolved the Corsair became one of the most effective fighters of the war. It entered widespread service in 1943, excelling in air combat and ground attack roles, particularly in the Pacific theatre. The Corsair remained in frontline service through the Korean War and was flown by several Allied nations, earning a formidable combat reputation.
