History
The Tiger tank, officially the Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger, was a formidable German heavy tank developed during World War II. Introduced in 1942, it was designed by Henschel and employed a powerful 88mm KwK 36 gun, which could penetrate the armour of any Allied tank at the time. The Tiger's armour, up to 120mm thick, provided exceptional protection, making it a fearsome adversary on the battlefield. Despite its strengths, the Tiger tank faced challenges due to its heavy weight, leading to mechanical issues and limited maneuverability. Only 1,347 units were produced, reflecting its complexity and cost. The tank first saw action in North Africa and later in Europe, notably during the Battle of Kursk and the Normandy Campaign. Its impact on the war was significant, instilling fear among Allied forces, but it ultimately could not alter the course of the conflict due to logistical and strategic limitations.
