History
The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) was a German armoured fighting vehicle developed during the Second World War. Originally designed as an infantry support gun, it was based on the Panzer III chassis and mounted a fixed, forward-facing gun instead of a turret. Early models featured a short-barrelled 75mm gun for destroying bunkers and fortifications, but later versions were upgraded with a longer, high-velocity gun to combat enemy tanks. The StuG III proved highly effective due to its low profile, reliability, and strong firepower, becoming one of Germany’s most produced armoured vehicles. It was used extensively on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Though not technically a tank, its tank-destroying role made it a vital asset in German armoured forces.
