History.
The Sd.Kfz. 124 Wespe, also known as the "Wasp," was a German self-propelled artillery vehicle used during World War II. Based on the Panzer II light tank chassis, the Wespe was designed in response to the need for more mobile artillery that could support fast-moving armoured divisions. Developed by the German Army in 1942, the vehicle was armed with a 105mm howitzer, capable of providing indirect fire support to infantry and armoured units.
The Wespe entered production in 1943, with around 676 units built until 1944. It quickly became a valuable asset on the Eastern and Western Fronts, offering increased mobility and protection compared to towed artillery. Despite its light armour, the Wespe was highly effective due to its versatility and ability to strike from behind cover. Its success on the battlefield ensured its status as one of the most effective self-propelled guns of the war.
