History.

The Roman chariot has its origins in earlier civilisations, such as the Egyptians and Greeks, but it became a symbol of Roman power and prestige. Used primarily for racing and military purposes, Roman chariots were lightweight, two-wheeled vehicles drawn by horses. In warfare, they were initially utilised for rapid mobility, though they became less effective as military tactics evolved.

Chariot racing, held in grand arenas like the Circus Maximus, became a popular form of entertainment in ancient Rome. These races were highly competitive, often dangerous, and attracted large crowds, making charioteers famous figures in Roman society.
