History
Panzer VI Tiger I 131, housed at The Tank Museum in Bovington, Dorset, is one of the most famous tanks from World War II. Captured in Tunisia in April 1943, this formidable German tank was the first Tiger I to be seized intact by Allied forces. During a battle with the British 48th Royal Tank Regiment, Tiger 131 was hit by three shots, one of which jammed its turret, leading to the crew abandoning the vehicle.
After its capture, the tank was sent to Britain for evaluation and was later restored to working condition. Today, Tiger 131 is the only running Tiger I in the world, making it a unique exhibit. It remains a star attraction at The Tank Museum, where it is showcased during special events, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the engineering and power of one of the most feared tanks of the war.
