The Panavia Tornado IDS (Interdictor/Strike) is a pivotal multi-role combat aircraft developed through a tripartite collaboration between the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy under the Panavia Aircraft GmbH consortium. Conceived in the late 1960s to meet NATO's needs for a versatile, low-level strike aircraft, the Tornado IDS first flew on August 14, 1974.
