The Wunderwaffe, a groundbreaking weapon which aimed to change the course of war, is part of COBI's Historical Collection. The brick plane draws inspiration from a model exhibited at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. It was flown by Hans Guido Mutke, who reached Switzerland in the war's final days and was interned there. Eventually, the aircraft returned to Germany and became part of a museum display.
History.
The Messerschmitt Me 262, Germany's first operational jet-powered fighter, entered service in 1944 as an interceptor. Variants for bombing and reconnaissance purposes were also developed. German pilots referred to it as Sturmvogel, while the Allies knew it as the Turbo. Due to its late introduction, it had limited impact during the war. Messerschmitt Me 262s achieved 900 kills, but with the loss of 100 aircraft.
Reviews.
''Build wise it was pretty straightforward and took about an hour and a half. No real problems or issues. In case you hadn’t guessed, I love it.
Great service from Brick Tanks as always.'' ~ Mark.C
''As is usual for COBI this is a well-made and impressive set. Considering the limitations of the parts involved it is an excellent representation of the aircraft. Highly recommended for the aviation collector.'' ~Tim.H
