History.

The Kübelwagen Typ 82 was a German military vehicle developed by Volkswagen during World War II. Designed by Ferdinand Porsche, it was based on the Volkswagen Beetle and built for rugged military use. Introduced in 1940, the lightweight, rear-wheel-drive vehicle featured a simple yet effective design, making it highly manoeuvrable across various terrains. Unlike the Allied Willys Jeep, the Kübelwagen lacked four-wheel drive but compensated with a high ground clearance and a self-locking differential. Used extensively by the Wehrmacht on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, it served as a transport, reconnaissance, and command vehicle. Over 50,000 were produced before 1945. Its durability and efficiency made it one of Germany’s most reliable military vehicles of the war.
