History.

The Jagdpanzer 38(t) “Chwat” was a German-built tank destroyer of the Hetzer type captured and used by Polish resistance during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. On 2 August 1944, fighters of the Armia Krajowa seized the vehicle from German forces near the Warsaw University of Technology. Renamed “Chwat” (Polish for Brave), it was one of only two armoured vehicles operated by the insurgents during the uprising, alongside the Panther nicknamed “Pudel.”

The crew attempted to employ the Hetzer in street fighting, but limited ammunition, fuel shortages, and hostile terrain restricted its usefulness. After several days of combat support in Warsaw’s city centre, Chwat became immobilised and was eventually abandoned, remaining a symbol of Polish determination and improvisation.
