History.

The DRB Class 52 steam locomotive, a pivotal wartime locomotive, was developed by Germany during World War II. Part of the Kriegslokomotiven programme, it was designed for efficiency and rapid production, with over 6,300 units built between 1942 and 1945. The Class 52 featured a robust, simplified design to withstand harsh conditions and minimal maintenance. Known for its reliability, it played a crucial role in transporting troops, equipment, and supplies across the vast Eastern Front.

Semaphore signals, essential for railway safety and communication, used pivoted arms or blades to convey information to train engineers. Originating in the 19th century, they were widely used during the era of steam locomotives like the Class 52. These visual signals controlled train movements, ensuring safe operations on busy wartime rail networks. Both the DRB Class 52 and semaphore signals symbolise the technological and logistical efforts underpinning wartime railway operations.
