History

The Mark V tank was a British heavy tank developed during the First World War and introduced in 1918. An improvement over earlier models, it featured a more powerful engine, better steering, and a single driver control system, making it easier to operate. Armed with either two 6-pounder guns or machine guns, it was used effectively in the final offensives of the war, particularly during the Battle of Amiens. The Mark V played a key role in breaking through German lines, demonstrating the potential of armoured warfare. Though slow and mechanically unreliable, it represented a significant advancement in tank design. After the war, some were used in Russia during the civil war, and a few remain preserved in military museums today.
