History.

The M48 Patton was an American main battle tank introduced in the 1950s as part of the Patton series, designed to replace the M47 and improve mobility, armour, and firepower. Armed with a 90mm gun and powered by a gasoline engine, the M48 offered strong protection and versatility, though its fuel consumption was high. The tank became central to U.S. armoured forces during the Vietnam War, where it was deployed for base security, convoy escort, and infantry support in difficult terrain. Its heavy firepower and thick armour proved invaluable against ambushes, while its sheer presence boosted morale. South Vietnamese forces also used the M48 in later years. The Patton’s performance in Vietnam cemented its reputation as a dependable Cold War-era tank.
