History.
The M24 Chaffee was an American light tank introduced in 1944 and named after General Adna R. Chaffee Jr., a pioneer of U.S. armoured warfare. Built to replace the under-gunned M5 Stuart, it featured a 75mm gun, giving it far greater firepower while maintaining mobility thanks to its lightweight design and twin Cadillac V8 engines. The Chaffee served in Europe and the Pacific during World War II, excelling in reconnaissance and infantry support. It later saw action in the Korean War and remained in service with many allied nations. During the Vietnam War, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) used the Chaffee in patrol and base defence roles, highlighting its remarkable longevity as one of the most enduring light tanks of the 20th century.
