History.

German submarine U-47 was a Type VIIB U-boat of the Kriegsmarine, built in Kiel and commissioned in 1938 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Günther Prien. It became one of the most famous U-boats of the Second World War after its daring penetration of the British naval base at Scapa Flow in October 1939, where it sank the battleship HMS Royal Oak. This action was a major propaganda victory for Germany and a serious psychological blow to Britain. U-47 completed ten war patrols, sinking over thirty Allied ships. In March 1941, U-47 disappeared in the North Atlantic, probably destroyed by British forces, with all hands lost.
