History
The Hummer, officially known as the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee), is a versatile military vehicle developed by AM General for the United States Army in the 1980s. Designed to replace older utility vehicles like the Jeep, the Humvee was built for durability, off-road capability, and adaptability. It served in various roles, including troop transport, command vehicle, and ambulance. Widely used during conflicts such as the Gulf War, Iraq War, and operations in Afghanistan, the Humvee became an iconic symbol of modern warfare. Though praised for its mobility, it faced criticism for its vulnerability to improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In recent years, it has begun to be phased out in favour of more heavily armoured vehicles like the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).
