History.

The Battle of Berlin was the final major battle of the Second World War in Europe, fought from April to May 1945. As Soviet forces advanced into Germany, Berlin became the ultimate objective for the Red Army, determined to end German rule. Beginning on 16 April 1945, Soviet troops crossed the Oder River and gradually encircled the city. Fierce street fighting followed, involving regular German units, Waffen-SS formations, and poorly equipped civilian militias. Adolf Hitler remained in Berlin until his suicide on 30 April 1945. With the city in ruins and resistance collapsing, Berlin surrendered on 2 May 1945. The battle led directly to Germany’s unconditional surrender days later.
