History
The T-34/85 was a Soviet medium tank introduced in 1944, featuring a more powerful 85mm gun and improved armour compared to earlier T-34 models. It played a crucial role during the later stages of the Second World War, including the Battle of Budapest in late 1944 and early 1945. In this brutal urban conflict, the T-34/85 was vital in supporting infantry and engaging German Panther and Tiger tanks. Its mobility, reliability, and firepower made it effective in the narrow streets and ruined buildings of the Hungarian capital. Despite suffering heavy losses, Soviet forces, aided by the T-34/85, eventually encircled and captured Budapest. The tank became symbolic of Soviet armoured strength and contributed significantly to the Red Army’s advance into Central Europe.
