History
The KA-52S is an upgraded variant of the Russian KA-52 "Alligator" attack helicopter, developed by Kamov. The original KA-52, introduced in the mid-1990s, featured a unique coaxial rotor system, which enhanced manoeuvrability and eliminated the need for a tail rotor. The KA-52S, unveiled around 2015, was designed with improved night operation capabilities, enhanced avionics, and additional armour. It also included compatibility with precision-guided munitions and upgraded communication systems, making it suitable for both land and naval operations. The “S” variant was developed in response to combat experience, particularly from operations in Syria. Known for its versatility and resilience, the KA-52S continues to serve in the Russian military, providing close air support and reconnaissance in various operational environments.
