History

The Fokker DR-1S was a German First World War triplane fighter made famous by Manfred von Richthofen, the “Red Baron.” Introduced in 1917, the aircraft was inspired by the British Sopwith Triplane. Designed by Reinhold Platz and built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke, it featured three staggered wings for excellent manoeuvrability in dogfights, although it suffered from limited speed and climb rate. The Dr.I was powered by a rotary engine and armed with twin Spandau machine guns. Despite some early structural issues, it became an iconic aircraft due to its unique design and association with top German aces. Production numbers were relatively low, but its influence and legendary status in aviation history remain significant to this day.
