History

The Battle of Kursk, fought in July and August 1943, was one of the largest and most significant battles of the Second World War. It took place in western Russia and marked the final major offensive by Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front. The battle is especially known for the massive tank engagement at Prokhorovka, one of the biggest in history. Soviet forces, well-prepared with defensive positions and intelligence, successfully repelled the German assault. This victory gave the Red Army the strategic initiative for the remainder of the war. The defeat weakened German strength in the East and boosted Soviet morale. The Battle of Kursk was a turning point that led to a continuous Soviet advance towards Berlin.
