History.
The Sturmpanzer 38(t) Grille Ausf. M was a German self-propelled gun used during World War II, built on the reliable chassis of the Czech-designed Panzer 38(t). Introduced in 1943, the Ausf. M variant featured a mid-mounted engine and rear fighting compartment, allowing better crew protection and improved stability when firing. It was armed with a powerful 15cm sIG 33 infantry gun, designed to provide mobile, heavy fire support for infantry units, particularly in urban and fortified areas. Around 370 units were produced between 1943 and 1945. The Grille Ausf. M served mainly on the Eastern Front and in Italy, offering vital support in close-combat scenarios. Today, surviving examples highlight Germany’s efforts to adapt older platforms for evolving battlefield roles.
