History.
ORP Sokoł was a Polish Navy submarine that became famous for its service during the Second World War. Built in the Netherlands and commissioned in 1939, she escaped to Britain after the German invasion of Poland and operated alongside the Royal Navy. Sokoł was particularly active in the Mediterranean, where she carried out daring patrols against Axis shipping. Her crew earned a reputation for bravery and effectiveness, sinking or damaging several enemy vessels under extremely dangerous conditions. Because of these successes she became known as “the Terrible Twin” alongside her sister submarine Dzik. After the war, Sokoł returned to Poland and was eventually withdrawn from service, remaining an important symbol of Polish naval resistance and cooperation with the Allies.
