History.
The Junkers Ju 87G-2 Stuka was a specialised ground-attack variant of Germany’s famous dive bomber used during the later years of the Second World War. Unlike earlier Stuka models designed for precision bombing, the G-2 was configured as a tank destroyer and carried two under-wing 37 mm Bordkanone BK 3,7 cannons. These powerful weapons allowed it to penetrate the thin top armour of Soviet tanks on the Eastern Front. The aircraft was slower and less agile than modern fighters, making it vulnerable to enemy interception, but it proved effective when operating with air superiority. Pilots such as Hans-Ulrich Rudel became famous for using the Ju 87G-2 to devastating effect against armoured formations and supply columns.
