History.
First flown in January 1918, this German fighter quickly proved itself to be a formidable aircraft. Approximately 3,300 were produced before the end of World War I. Armistice terms required Germany to surrender all D VIIs to the Allies and surviving aircraft saw much service with many countries in the years following. The United States, France, Great Britain and Canada all acquired quantities of them; Poland used about 50 aircraft for ground attacks during the Polish-Soviet War and Hungary used them in its 1919 conflict with Romania.
