History.
The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the most decisive and brutal battles of the Second World War. Fought between August 1942 and February 1943, it pitted Germany against the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad. The fighting was marked by intense urban combat, with soldiers battling street by street and building by building in harsh winter conditions. Heavy casualties were suffered on both sides, but the Soviet Red Army ultimately encircled and defeated the German Sixth Army. This defeat marked a major turning point in the war, ending Germany’s advance into the Soviet Union and shifting the momentum firmly in favour of the Allies.
