History
The Sukhoi Su-27, developed in the 1970s by the Soviet Union, was designed to rival American fighters like the F-15 Eagle. Entering service in 1985, the Su-27 featured exceptional manoeuvrability, a powerful radar, and long-range capabilities, making it one of the most formidable air superiority fighters of its time. Its twin-engine design, combined with advanced aerodynamics and fly-by-wire controls, allowed for impressive agility, including the famous “Cobra” manoeuvre.
Primarily operated by the Soviet and later Russian Air Forces, it was also widely exported and formed the basis for several derivatives, including the Su-30, Su-33, and Su-35. The Su-27 remains in service today with multiple air forces worldwide and is considered a cornerstone of modern Russian fighter development.
