History.

The MiG-17, NATO code-named "Fresco," is a jet fighter aircraft developed by the Soviet Union in the early 1950s. An advancement over its predecessor, the MiG-15, the MiG-17 featured a redesigned, more aerodynamic wing and tailplane to improve performance, particularly at high speeds and altitudes. Its development began in 1949, with the first prototype flying in 1950 and entering service in 1952. The MiG-17 quickly became a mainstay of the Soviet and Warsaw Pact air forces due to its robust design and reliable performance.

During the Vietnam War, the MiG-17 earned a formidable reputation, engaging effectively against more modern U.S. aircraft like the F-4 Phantom. Its agility and ruggedness made it a challenging adversary in dogfights. The MiG-17 was widely exported to various countries and saw action in numerous conflicts worldwide, solidifying its legacy as one of the most significant jet fighters of the Cold War era.
