History.

The Volkswagen Type 166 Schwimmwagen was a remarkable amphibious vehicle produced during World War II by Germany. Designed in 1941 by Porsche engineer Erwin Komenda, it was based on the Volkswagen Beetle's chassis and the Type 82 Kübelwagen. The Schwimmwagen featured a four-wheel-drive system and a rear-mounted propeller, enabling it to transition seamlessly between land and water.

Approximately 14,000 units were manufactured between 1942 and 1944, primarily for the German Wehrmacht. Its lightweight design, flat underbody, and water-sealed construction made it effective for reconnaissance missions in diverse terrains. Although its production ceased after the war, the Schwimmwagen remains an iconic piece of automotive history, celebrated for its ingenuity and utility in challenging wartime conditions.

Reviews.

"I got this little model for Christmas & built it while watching “A bridge to far“ . A perfect way to spend some relaxing time. The kit is brilliant, the detail is great & it all comes with the usual Cobi quality as standard." ~ Mark
