History.
The Ausf. G version of the Panther tank utilised a redesigned chassis, while retaining the same turret and 7.5cm Kw.K L/70 gun as the earlier Ausf.A.
In May 1944, during a meeting at M.A.N., it was decided to develop a new Panther tank chassis. This was in addition to the ongoing work on the Panther II, which was still incomplete. Lessons learned from the Panther II design process influenced the plans for the Ausf.G chassis.
The side pannier armour on the Ausf.D and Ausf.A tank chassis had a 40-degree angle. On the new chassis, the pannier side armour had a slope of 29 degrees, with increased thickness from 40 mm to 50 mm. This added 305 Kg to the tank's weight.
