History.

The Sopwith F.1 Camel was one of the most famous British fighter aircraft of World War I. Developed by the Sopwith Aviation Company, it first flew in December 1916 and entered service with the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service in mid-1917. The Camel was a single-seat biplane with a distinctive hump-shaped fairing over its twin Vickers machine guns, which gave the aircraft its name.

The Camel was renowned for its agility and powerful armament, making it a formidable opponent in dogfights. However, its design also made it challenging to fly, requiring skilled pilots to master its tendency to spin. Despite this, the Camel achieved remarkable success, credited with downing more enemy aircraft than any other Allied fighter of the war. Over 5,000 were built, and it became a symbol of British aerial prowess during the conflict.
