History.

The Messerschmitt Me 163B Komet was a revolutionary German interceptor aircraft used during the Second World War. Designed by Alexander Lippisch, it was the world’s only operational rocket-powered fighter. The Me 163B first flew in 1941, but operational deployment began in 1944 with the Luftwaffe. Its extraordinary speed allowed it to evade Allied fighters, reaching over 950 km/h. However, its short flight duration and volatile rocket fuel made it highly dangerous. Armed with two 30mm cannons, it was effective in brief bursts but struggled with accuracy. Although it posed a significant threat to Allied bombers, its technical limitations and lack of sustained success meant only modest impact. Nevertheless, it marked a pivotal moment in aviation history, influencing future rocket and jet designs.
