History.
The M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams is the most advanced variant of the U.S. Army’s iconic main battle tank, developed from the original M1 Abrams, which first entered service in 1980. Introduced in the mid-2010s, the SEPv3 (System Enhancement Package version 3) includes major upgrades in survivability, firepower, communications, and energy efficiency. Improvements include enhanced armour, an upgraded fire control system, improved ammunition data links, and a new Auxiliary Power Unit to reduce fuel consumption.
Designed to counter modern threats, including IEDs and cyber warfare, the SEPv3 offers greater battlefield awareness through advanced networking systems. It remains a symbol of Western armoured superiority and continues to evolve. The SEPv3 is currently being deployed by the U.S. Army and will form the backbone of its armoured forces for years to come.
