History.
The LIM-1, a Polish-built version of the Soviet MiG-15, was introduced to the Polish Air Force in 1952. The MiG-15, originally designed by Mikoyan-Gurevich, was renowned for its performance and effectiveness in combat, particularly during the Korean War. Poland, seeking to bolster its air capabilities, began producing the aircraft under license as the LIM-1.
The LIM-1 featured a swept-wing design, which provided excellent aerodynamic performance, and was powered by a Klimov VK-1 engine. This engine enabled the aircraft to reach speeds of up to 1,075 km/h and operate at altitudes of over 15,000 metres. The Polish Air Force utilised the LIM-1 primarily for training and defense roles, capitalising on its agility and firepower.
The aircraft's introduction marked a significant enhancement of Poland's military aviation capabilities during the early Cold War period, reflecting the broader Eastern Bloc's reliance on Soviet technology and designs. The LIM-1 remained in service for several years, contributing to the modernisation and operational readiness of the Polish Air Force.
