History.

Concorde G-BBDG, known by its radio callsign Delta Golf, was the first British-built Concorde and one of the key development aircraft for the programme. Registered in 1969, it made its maiden flight from Filton on 2 April 1969, shortly after the French prototype. Although structurally close to production standard, G-BBDG was never used for commercial passenger service. Instead, it was flown extensively for flight testing, certification work and public demonstration tours, helping to prove Concorde’s safety and performance. Retired from flying in 1973, the aircraft was later acquired by British Airways. It is now on long-term display at Brooklands Museum in Surrey, where it has been carefully restored and forms a centrepiece of the museum’s aviation collection.

The Concorde became an icon of luxury and technological prowess, used primarily by British Airways and Air France. However, its high operational costs, noise concerns, and limited range restricted its appeal. The tragic crash of Air France Flight 4590 in 2000, coupled with economic factors, led to its retirement in 2003. Despite its short-lived service, the Concorde remains a symbol of ambition and the pinnacle of aviation innovation.
