History.

The U-Boat XXVII, also known as "Sea Hound" 181 KL, was an innovative German midget submarine developed during World War II. Designed for stealth and agility, it was part of the Kriegsmarine's effort to counter Allied naval superiority. Unlike traditional U-boats, the XXVII class featured a streamlined design and advanced acoustic stealth technology, enabling it to operate close to enemy shores and harbours undetected.

Commissioned in 1944, the Sea Hound 181 KL was equipped with two torpedoes and powered by an electric motor, allowing for silent operation. Its compact size and maneuverability made it suitable for special operations, including reconnaissance and targeted attacks on Allied shipping. Despite its advanced design, the Sea Hound faced significant challenges, including limited range and endurance, which restricted its operational effectiveness.

Although the XXVII class, including Sea Hound 181 KL, did not have a significant impact on the war's outcome, it represented a bold step in submarine innovation, influencing post-war submarine design and tactics. The legacy of the Sea Hound highlights the desperate and creative measures undertaken by the German Navy in the closing years of World War II.
