History.
The Trabant 601, a compact car from East Germany, was produced between 1963 and 1990 by VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke. Known for its durability and simplicity, the Trabant became a symbol of the Eastern Bloc's automotive industry. The 601 model, with its distinct boxy design and two-stroke engine, was commonly used as a civilian car but also found a niche role in law enforcement.
The "Polizei" version was a modified Trabant 601 used by East German police forces for patrolling and maintaining order. Painted in green and white, it was equipped with a siren and lights but retained its basic mechanical features. Though rudimentary compared to Western police vehicles, it became an iconic relic of Cold War-era policing.
