History
The Stryker M1126 Infantry Carrier Vehicle emerged in the early 2000s as part of the US Army’s transformation towards lighter, more deployable forces. Based on the Canadian LAV III design, it was introduced to equip newly formed Stryker Brigade Combat Teams with a vehicle combining mobility, protection and digital connectivity. Entering service in 2002, the M1126 could transport a nine-soldier infantry squad while providing armour protection against small arms and artillery fragments. It first saw combat in Iraq, where additional slat armour was fitted to counter rocket-propelled grenades. Over time, upgrades improved survivability, communications and firepower, ensuring the Stryker remained a central component of modern American mechanised operations.
