The Saab J 35 Draken is a legendary Swedish fighter aircraft developed during the Cold War to intercept high-altitude Soviet bombers. Entering service in 1960, it featured an innovative double-delta wing design that allowed impressive high-speed performance alongside excellent low-speed stability. Capable of exceeding Mach 2, the Draken was the first Western European aircraft to break the sound barrier in level flight. Built to operate from public highways in harsh Scandinavian winters, it possessed remarkable agility and was the first plane known to perform the famous Cobra manoeuvre.
