History.

The Polish Uhlans were a famous light cavalry formation whose origins date back to the late Middle Ages, drawing inspiration from Tatar and steppe horsemen serving in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. By the 18th century they had become a distinctive and highly respected arm of the Polish army, known for their speed, discipline, and use of the lance. Uhlans played an important role during the partitions of Poland and in the Napoleonic Wars, fighting alongside French forces and helping spread the “uhlans” model across Europe. In the 19th and early 20th centuries they became a symbol of Polish military tradition, serving in uprisings and later in the reborn Polish Army after 1918, combining romantic legend with real battlefield effectiveness.
