History
The Panzer IV was a key German medium tank developed in the 1930s and served throughout the entirety of the Second World War. Initially designed as an infantry support vehicle, it was equipped with a short-barrelled 75mm gun. However, as the war progressed and German forces encountered more heavily armoured Allied tanks, the Panzer IV was upgraded with a longer, high-velocity gun, making it a formidable opponent. It saw action on all major fronts, including North Africa, the Eastern Front, and Western Europe. Unlike earlier German tanks, the Panzer IV’s design allowed for continuous improvement, which extended its service life. By the end of the war, it was the most widely produced German tank, with over 8,500 units built.
