History.

The MiG-21 was one of the most influential fighter aircraft of the Cold War. Designed in the mid-1950s by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the , it first flew in 1955 and entered service in 1959. Built as a lightweight, supersonic interceptor, the MiG-21 was fast, simple, and relatively inexpensive, making it ideal for mass production. It became the most widely produced supersonic jet fighter in history, serving with over 60 air forces. The aircraft saw extensive combat in conflicts such as the Vietnam War and Middle East wars, where it proved agile and effective. Numerous upgrades allowed the MiG-21 to remain in service well into the 21st century.
