History.
The B-17G (often informally referenced as B-17Gs) was the final and most advanced production model of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, a legendary American heavy bomber of the Second World War. Evolving from earlier variants such as the B-17E and B-17F, the G-model entered service in 1943. It incorporated numerous improvements based on frontline experience, the most notable being the addition of the chin-mounted gun turret to counter head-on fighter attacks. Further refinements included enhanced defensive armament, improved crew protection and strengthened structural features. The B-17G became the most produced variant, with over 8,600 built, and played a vital role in the daylight strategic bombing campaign over Europe, targeting industrial, military and logistical infrastructure until 1945.
