History.

The Alpha Jet, a light attack and advanced trainer aircraft, holds a significant place in the history of the French Air Force. Developed jointly by France's Dassault-Breguet and Germany's Dornier in the early 1970s, the Alpha Jet was designed to meet the training and light attack needs of both nations. Its maiden flight took place on October 26, 1973, and it was introduced into service in 1979. The French Air Force primarily utilised the Alpha Jet for pilot training, benefiting from its versatility, agility, and twin-engine reliability. Beyond training, it was also capable of performing light attack missions, equipped with a range of weapons for ground support roles. The aircraft became a mainstay at the French Air Force Academy in Tours and was also famously used by the Patrouille de France, the French Air Force’s aerobatic demonstration team. Over the years, the Alpha Jet has proven its durability and effectiveness, remaining an essential asset in the French Air Force’s operational capabilities.
