History.
The V2 rocket, developed by Germany during World War II, was the world's first long-range guided ballistic missile. Launched between 1944 and 1945, it was designed by Wernher von Braun and his team. The Meillerwagen, a specialised transport and launch vehicle, played a crucial role in deploying these rockets. Named after its manufacturer, Meiller, this vehicle could carry a V2 rocket from assembly sites to the launch area, where it would be erected and fuelled.
The Meillerwagen's design enabled rapid deployment and increased the mobility of V2 units, making them harder to target by Allied forces. Despite being an engineering marvel, the V2 was used primarily against civilian targets in London and Antwerp, causing significant destruction but failing to change the war's outcome. After the war, the V2 and its associated technology, including the Meillerwagen, became the foundation for post-war missile and space exploration efforts.
