History.

The Kübelwagen, officially known as the Typ 82, is a German military vehicle developed during World War II. Designed by Ferdinand Porsche and manufactured by Volkswagen, the Kübelwagen was intended to serve as the German equivalent of the American Jeep. Its development began in 1938, with production commencing in 1940.

The Kübelwagen was notable for its lightweight design and air-cooled engine, which made it highly reliable in a variety of terrains and climates. It featured a simple yet robust construction, with a rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, allowing it to navigate rough and uneven ground effectively. Over 50,000 units were produced during the war, serving various roles including transport, reconnaissance, and communication.

Despite its military origins, the Kübelwagen's engineering principles influenced the development of civilian vehicles post-war, most notably the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. Its legacy endures as a symbol of wartime innovation and engineering.
