Vickers Wellington MK. 1C - Lego compatible COBI 5531 - 560 brick medium bomber

Sale price £45.99 Regular price £49.99

British twin-engined, long-range medium bomber designed during the 1930s by Vickers-Armstrong (chief designer Rex Pierson). Named after the 1st Duke of Wellington, it was one of three aircraft developed in response to requests by the Air Ministry for a twin-engined day bomber capable of delivering higher performance than any previous design. One of the principal aircraft deployed by Bomber Command, the Wellington was widely used as a night bomber in the early years of the Second World War. After 1943, it was superceded by larger four-engined heavy bombers such as the Lancaster, but it continued to serve throughout the war in other duties, particularly as an anti-submarine aircraft. It was the only British bomber to be produced for the duration of the war and in greater quantity than any other (about 11,460 were built). The Mark IC (of which 2,685 were produced) had the addition of a waist gun and carried a crew of six - pilot, radio operator, navigator/bomb aimer, observer/nose gunner, tail gunner and waist gunner.
