Sale price £15.99 Regular price £19.99

The Sd.KFZ.2 Kettenkrad HK101 (kettenkrad = 'tracked motorcycle') was originally a light tractor for airborne troops and designed to be delivered by Junkers Ju 52 aircraft. Steering was effected by turning the handlebars and, with a hard turn, track brakes were automatically engaged to slew the rest of the vehicle round. It could also be used without the front wheel foe extreme off-road use. The Kettenkrad was first used in the Soviet Union in 1941. and the majority of them served on the Eastern Front laying communication cables, pulling heavy loads and carrying soldiers through the deep Russian mud. It was also used as a runway tug for certain aircraft later in the war. By the time production stopped in 1944 8,345 had been built. After the war, about 550 Kettenkräder were built for agricultural use.
